Narrative Description of Project:
In Ghana, the 1985 investment code required that the effects of an enterprise on the environment are taken into consideration before the National Investment Centre gives approval for its execution. Environmental Impact Assessments (EPA) has become a requirement in Ghana for any project which may have the potential to result in significant environmental impacts. Essentially the processes involved the proposed development action, scoping, conduct of the EIA study and the submission of Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The acceptance of an assessment and mitigation plan leads to the issue of an Environmental Permit (EP) for the intervention to proceed.
The project comprised 2 main components which were:
- 1. Provision of off-site infrastructure to facilitate development of the site such as access roads, water, electricity, drainage etc.
- 2. Provision of various on-site facilities to facilitate development of productive activities such as factory buildings, commercial centres, security etc.
